Creating City University’s hybrid workspace of the future

City, University of London needed our help to create a more streamlined workspace for the professional services teams. Alongside LTS Architecture, Summers-Inman and Hoare Lea we set about refreshing their Gloucester Building home. One of the main challenges of this 20th century Victorian building was that the offices often overheated in the summer. Sustainability was also key as they worked towards their 2040 Net Zero goals.

To create a motivating workspace we refreshed their three floors, tailoring the space to the hybrid working needs of each team through feature colours and bespoke furniture – creating new zones with clear identities for each professional group.

To solve the overheating in the summer months we improved the passive systems and avoided the use of chillers, featuring high-performance Georgian arched windows and blinds with sensors – setting a sustainable precedent for other refurbishment projects across their wider estate.

The finished revamped space is helping City reach their 2040 sustainable goals, all the while providing their teams with a fresh, modern place to call their office.
